Job Title: Structural Superintendent – Heavy Civil

Job Summary:
The Structural Superintendent will be responsible for the overall field supervision and direction of all structural construction activities on the project. This role will ensure that all structural work is performed in accordance with the project plans, specifications, and quality standards, while maintaining safety and adhering to the project schedule and budget.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience in the construction of complex transportation structures, including bridges, flyover ramps, and interchange components.
Responsibilities:
Provide on-site leadership and supervision for all structural construction activities, including but not limited to:
- Bridge construction (including foundations, piers, decks, and superstructures)
- Flyover ramp construction
- Construction of enhanced entrance and exit ramps
- Construction of the SW 10th Street connector lanes (likely including bridge structures and overpasses)
- Formwork, falsework, and shoring operations
- Concrete placement and finishing
- Steel erection
- Pile driving and other foundation work
- Pre-stressed concrete construction
- Installation of structural elements such as barriers, railings, and signage supports.
- Direct and coordinate the work of subcontractors, craft labor, and other field personnel involved in structural activities.
- Ensure that all structural work is performed in compliance with project plans, specifications, shop drawings, and relevant codes and regulations, including Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) standards.
- Implement and enforce the project’s safety program, ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel involved in structural construction.
- Conduct regular inspections of structural work to ensure quality and adherence to specifications.
- Identify and resolve any structural-related issues or conflicts that may arise during construction.
- Monitor and track progress of structural work against the project schedule, and proactively identify and communicate any potential delays.
- Collaborate closely with the Project Manager, Engineers, and other members of the project team to ensure effective communication and coordination.
- Maintain accurate daily logs and other project documentation related to structural activities.
- Participate in project meetings, including pre-construction meetings, progress meetings, and safety meetings.
- Review and approve subcontractor payment applications related to structural work.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the project’s quality control plan for structural elements.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and installation of all structural materials.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior field personnel.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10-12 years of experience in structural construction, with a focus on bridge and transportation infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated experience as a Superintendent on large-scale, complex infrastructure work, preferably with FDOT experience.
- Thorough knowledge of structural construction methods, materials, and equipment.
- Strong understanding of FDOT specifications and standards.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read and interpret complex structural drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
- Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- OSHA 30-hour certification.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, but not essential.
- Experience with projects involving flyover ramps and complex interchange configurations.
- Experience with pre-stressed concrete construction.
- Experience with value engineering and constructability reviews.
- First Aid/CPR certification, where possible.
